The Shakers were a religious community that thrived in America, particularly in the 19th century. Based on the belief that "beauty resides in utility," their furniture and tools are characterized by sophisticated forms that prioritize functional beauty and impeccable craftsmanship. This aesthetic has inspired many designers and architects, including Hans Wegner, in the years that followed.
At IDEE, we introduce the works of Canadian master Brent Rourke. Brent’s creations go through many processes before completion due to his meticulous attention to detail. The intricately manufactured machinery, built over 100 years ago, is used as a crucial element in the production method that has remained unchanged for 150 years, reflecting Brent's commitment to quality. The top-quality shaker boxes, supplied to the authentic Shaker community village in America, have received high praise from collectors of fine crafts and were recognized as the "Atlantic Canada Craft Exporter of the Year" in 2006.
